CET
The Central
England Temperature (CET) is an average of three weather stations
based in the locations shown on the map below. The CET data has
been logged since the 17th century, so is a good benchmark for
comparing recent weather with what happened over 300 years ago.
The Met Office averages CET data over 30 year periods for working
out what average temperatures are, they use the years 1961 to
1990 and 1971 to 2000.

The coldest year on record was
1740, which had a CET of 6.84ºC, making it 2.64ºC below
